Founded in 1980, Muji is a global Japanese retail company selling a wide variety of household consumer items, furniture, clothing, and food products. It has branched itself outside of Japan, and now has a foothold in the Philippines, with a loyal following among Filipino consumers due to what is generally perceived as quality products being sold by the brand.

Now, the Japanese retail company is moving to push Eco-consciousness to its consumers by rolling out a BYOB (Bring Your Own Bags) policy, effective November 7, 2024.

On their official Facebook page, MUJI Philippines posted:

Bring your own reusable bag and help save the earth 🌍

To encourage sustainability, we’ll soon be charging P2 for each MUJI shopping bag. Let’s make a difference together—one bag at a time.

From MUJI Philippines‘ Facebook page.

On their official website, the company further explains the details behind this policy, including which bags are free for what purchases, and which ones will come with a Php2.00 price tag.

MUJI Philippines also reiterates on their website that they are doing this in order to reduce waste, thereby protecting the environment.
